I first started running as a junior athlete in the 1980s. Back then, running was just a way to keep fit and to catch-up with friends. I enjoyed competing over the cross, on the road and at the track, getting a real buzz every time I raced. During my 20s I lost touch with the sport and instead focused on bringing up my two daughters. I soon realised how much I missed running and returned to my former running club. Over the years, I have taken part in multiple races, some highlights including placing 2nd at the European Veterans Cross Country Championships and 2nd at the European Masters 3,000m in the V40 category.
When I moved into the V45 category in 2014, I realised that I wanted to give something back to the sport and to help others enjoy training and competing. I gained my Coach in Running Fitness qualification with England Athletics and started helping at the local athletics club where my daughters were training. Back then, there were only three athletes in the group, but there are now 40 who attend training regularly. Being a coach at North Somerset AC has made me realise how much I enjoy helping others achieve their goals and this is why I decided to start Run This Way.
